In the midst of the oceans' seaweed and underwater caverns lived a mermaid named Laureli Sapphirus. Ever since she was a child, she wondered just what was beyond the blue ripple of water that always hovered above her, but now that she lived more independently, she had made it a point to discover the shores as much as possible without the disapproving eye of her peers. Yes, stories had reached her ears of a never ending war on land that would surely corrupt her and tear her soul apart, but Laureli wasn't afraid because nothing could match her insatiable curiosity of all things unknown.

Laureli was beginning her mornings' escape to the surface world. She had grabbed her favorite red and white plaid flannel shirt which was extremely large on her, but she didn't mind. She hadn't bought it herself; it washed up on the beach many months ago and she deemed it one of her more valuable finds. With her shirt flailing behind her in her gripping race to the surface, she wondered if she would see him again today. He knew that she came around before the sun came up, but she did not know how he had always predicted her exact location.

Laureli wasn't around humans very often, but when she was, they always treated her differently, so she never really knows how they truly act around each other. Somehow, they always know she's a mermaid. Perhaps this is because that she has no pants, nor undergarments. Her large flannel shirt is merely long enough to keep the most private parts of her body hidden from view.

She poked her head out of the water and scanned the surface quickly for any onlookers before emerging from the deeper waters and into the shallow tides. She across the ocean and squinted at the sun while she began to wring dry her favorite shirt.

(Sorry if this sucks) bic: The young man looked around the shoreline, smiling to himself as he paced around the shoreline. /Maybe I'll see the girl again/ Jayken thought, biting his lip. He had seen the girl, or more correct mermaid come out of the water and change into a human form once before and he had been craving another encounter, or spy session since he had seen her transform merely by chance. /I can't wait/ he thought to himself as he found a place to sit on the beach that was hidden by the waves and from view. He bit his lip, knowing he was crazy. Everything in this world was insane now, light against dark. What could he do? He could change the color of his eyes and hair, that was it.You are just a useless excuse for a gifted being he had been told many times because of his powers but he shook it off.

He sighed though, standing back up and pacing around once again. /You're insane/ he told himself, shaking his head as he scanned the waters of the ocean. He saw a head peaking up from the gleaming blue ocean water and he smiled, approaching her. "Hello, Miss?" Jayken said with a smile on his young face.

"Oh, hello~" Laureli said, flicking her tail lightly at the water while she kept her shirt in the air. "It is nice to see you again?" She said, it wasn't really a question, she was just unsure of how humans interact with one another in this situation of meeting one for a second time. Black pieces of silk were tied around her bosom to cover herself, and for now, her tail hid any other indecencies. "Have you come to actually help me comb the beach for treasure this time?" She asked him with a smile, brightly laid upon her face, gleaming in the slowly rising sun.

The tide began to pull away from around her and she began sinking into wet sand, but it only took a few moments for her scales to fall away from her tail; when the water pulled back in, washing away the shed scales, her legs took shape and Laureli's face scrunched only in slight discomfort.

She stretched her re-found limbs, and began the always difficult task of standing. First, she pulled her legs closer to her body and tried to push herself up with her arms, but they never seemed long enough. She ended up flipping over and pulling herself up into a crawl position, and quickly after that, she managed to stumble forward at a high enough speed to kickstart herself off of the ground. Her legs supported her brisk run until she stopped moving and began to wobble back and forth.

In her haste, she laid down her shirt on dry sand before beginning her standing ordeal, but a breeze must have whisked her prized shirt away from her, up the beach some more. Noticing it floating in the distance, she yelped. Her hands covered her mouth and she bit her lip; she was only covered by a small silk bra that concealed hardly anything.

Jayken smiled at her, knowing she recognized him. /Maybe I'm not such a loon as I believe I am./ Jayken thought to himself optimistically. "I would love to." Jayken said as he waded into the water, ready to help the mermaid out of the water with a kind smile on his face. She was beautiful, he couldn't deny that but in the touchy subject of romance, Jayken seemed to have a steady head planted on his shoulders, or atleast so it seemed. He smiled as he backed up, seeing her on the beach and letting her transform by herself. When Jayken saw her starting to fall backwards he dived to catch her, he missed and dived into the water, his face going smack in the wet sand. "Ouch." He muttered as he started to regain his footing only to slip and fall again into the waves. Finally, after his first attempt and failure to stand up, he managed to regain footing for real, that is when he saw the mermaid's predicament with the plaid shirt she had been using as a dress.
"Here Ma'am." Jayken said, stripping off his over sized navy colored polo shirt and handing it to the girl as he dashed off on a while goose chase over the girl's ragged piece of cloth she used to cover up herself.

Laureli's lip quivered, most upset and traumatized by the situation. She took the shirt from him because she felt that that's what she was supposed to do, but she just stood there with his shirt in her hand watching him. Stunned, she remained frozen; too unsure of her footing to help him catch her own shirt. She began to mumble to herself, "In the ocean, I know where and when all the tides and currents are... What is this carrying my clothes away?" she demanded, fearing that she would get no answer at all from the man.

She trembled as another breeze blew by her. A cold chill ran all through her body; beach weather is only so good to your body before it can make you feel like you're freezing to death. Her teeth chattered as she hopelessly watched her shirt dance in the sky going farther and farther away from her. Maybe it hadn't been rightfully hers and the surface world was finally taking it from her. She wondered if that's how it really worked here. The sand blew all around her skin and she winced from the distress.
